Asilah

One of the jewels of the North Atlantic coast. Asilah is well known for its medieval ramparts, narrow streets, fantastic coastline and beautiful beaches. In recent years, the Moroccan government has invested money in this region to promote tourism since this region has a potential that is not negligible. You will love its old medina and its medieval ramparts, also the walls of the castle on the Atlantic coast.

Rabat

This great capital is an interesting point if one wants to escape the imperial cities very visited by the tourists. Rabat is a rather modern and cosmopolitan city although it remains a city full of ancient palaces and medinas facing the Atlantic. Rabat is a city where there is much to see, from its magnificent palaces to the mausoleum Mohammed V, the old Kasbah of Oudaias as well as the Andalusian gardens.

Rabat has many ancient Phoenician and Roman buildings, but it was only in the 10th and 12th centuries, with the arrival of the Almohades, that the city became important. Then, Yacoub Al-Mansour began his conquest of the Iberian Peninsula and, a few years later, Ribat al-Fatah aka Rabat became a prosperous center. Rabat was the capital of Morocco for many years until the French decided to transfer the government to the city of Fez.

El Jadida

El Jadida is the last site of Morocco classified by UNESCO. Its ancient medina makes it one of the most beautiful cities of the Moroccan coast. It was founded by Portuguese in 1513 under the name of Mazagan and was governed by Portuguese until 1769 until the arrival of Sultan Sidi Mohammed bin Abdallah.

For several years, El Jadida was forgotten and abandoned until its recolonization by the Portuguese merchants in about 1850. The old “Portuguese city” boasts breathtaking views of the ocean and the blend of Western European features with Moroccan flavor makes it a unique city.

Essaouira

Called Mogador by the Portuguese, at the end of the 15th century. It is one of the most famous coastal cities in Morocco. It is very famous for its gnawa music festival, for its ramparts and for its grilled fish restaurants with sea views. A walk in Essaouira is a mix of exotic architecture.

Most of the buildings in the city were commanded by Sultan Sid Mohammed Ben Abdallah to a French architect, Theodore Cornut. Moreover, the name of the city, which means “well drawn”, dates back to that time. You can visit the harbor where Orson Welles has filmed many of his Othello.
Further south-east of the coast is the island of Mogador and the bird sanctuary where it is possible to observe the Eleanora falcon that comes directly from Madagascar for breeding.
